CBS List NFL Announcers for Week 6

09/28/2007 Mookie 1 comment

CBS is much better than FOX Sports when it comes to the NFL. They have Gus Johnson, so that’s an early advantage for the eye. The best part, they plan ahead. Here are the announcing pairings for week 6.

WEEK 6 — Oct. 14 — DOUBLEHEADER

GAME — PLAY-BY-PLAY/ANALYST

1:00 PM, ET starts:

·Miami @ Cleveland — Ian Eagle/Solomon Wilcots
·Houston @ Jacksonville — Gus Johnson/Steve Tasker
·Cincinnati @ Kansas City — Kevin Harlan/Rich Gannon
·Tennessee @ Tampa Bay — Greg Gumbel/Dan Dierdorf

4:15 PM, ET starts:

·New England @ Dallas — Jim Nantz/Phil Simms
·Oakland @ San Diego — Dick Enberg/Randy Cross

Quick thoughts:

  • Gus Johnson went from Cincy/Seattle, a marquee early season matchup, to Oakland/Miami this weekend, Jacksonville/Kansas City the week after that, to this.
  • Anyone else think that Gumbel/Dierdorf are getting fewer “A” grade matchups

If I Interviewed…….Roger Goodell

09/28/2007 Mookie Leave a comment

YES!! It’s finally back! The series in which I interview some of the biggest names in American sports, and get some of the strangest feedback.

Disclaimer: It purely fictitious PEOPLE!

SSR is for me, RG is for Roger Goodell, commissioner of the NFL.

SSR: Nice to meet you Mr. Goodell.

RG: No problem.

SSR: How are you handling all of these duties in just your 2nd year as head honcho of the NFL?

RG: Well, it’s pretty tough to work in this joint. Everyone is snapping at each other, some of the people I work with are total dogs. This is much tougher than I thought it would be. But, I’m fine as long as there is money in the bank.

SSR: Have you considered a vacation?

RG: Yes, I consider the fact that I do need a rest.

(awkward pause)

SSR: Do you plan to come up with new gimmicks to improve the image of the league?

RG: As a matter of fact I am, I plan to start a prison league in 2011.

SSR: Why do you say that?

RG: Because many of the players will be in jail by then. The Bengals vs. The other 31 teams that have problem players

SSR: That’s absurd, I’m sure there aren’t that many football players who are behaving badly.

RG: No, it’s reality.

(I take a 2 minute break seeing that this is going nowhere)

SSR: What do you think of Bill Belichick?

RG: I think he’s a great coach who just has some problems, you know, um…

SSR: Playing by the rules?

RG: No, smiling.

SSR: Let’s move away from football, what are your favorite TV shows?

RG: Arrested Development, Prison Break, anything that’s on CourtTV.

SSR: Never mind, dumb question.

RG: You want dumb, look at Rex Grossman’s passes.

SSR: THAT IS IT!! Interview over. All you are doing is criticizing these players, and it’s bugging me, so good day to you sir.

So there you have it, If I interviewed Roger Goodell is complete. Check in next time when I interview Dick Vermeil.

The Editors Must Have Taken a Vacation

09/28/2007 Mookie Leave a comment

I’m sorry, but you can’t get away with what Sportsline did today. For those who don’t know the story, Houston Texans player Cedric Killings had a scary injury (resulting in a fractured vertebrae) against Indy on Sunday, but today, he has shown signs of improvement. This is what the headline looks like from Sportsline:

Texans thrilled to see Killings up, walking

Whatever happens in Texas is fine with me.

ESPN.com, which is about as reliable as Microsoft Excel 2007 for math, found a way to screw up the description on my iGoogle page.

Killings, despite fracture vertebrae, leaves hospital

Houston Texans defensive tackle Fredric Killings, who fractured a neck vertebrae, is being discharged from a hospital.

So they can’t spell Cedric, and can’t correctly put together the term “fractured vertebrae”.

So to the editors over at Sportsline and ESPN, great job.

Since When Does an 8-8 Team Get This Many National TV Games?

09/27/2007 Mookie Leave a comment

As seen on ArmchairGM:

The New York Giants seem to be the main attraction every week. It has to be because of Eli Manning. Here is the schedule for the Giants from 1-16, as well as if it’s National, or a big game that at least 55% the country receives.

Week 1: @ Dallas, NBC, National
Week 2: vs. Packers, FOX, Majority of the Country
Week 3: @ Redskins, FOX, 85% receive the game
Week 4: vs. Eagles, NBC, National
Week 5: vs. Jets, CBS, Regional
Week 6: @ Atlanta, ESPN, National
Week 7: vs. 49ers, FOX, regional
Week 8: vs. Miami (London), FOX, Most of the Country Receives that game
Week 9: Bye
Week 10: vs. Dallas, FOX, Could Be a Flex Game, Majority still see that game.
Week 11: @ Detroit, FOX, Status Unsure
Week 12: vs. Vikings, FOX, Status Unsure
Week 13: @ Chicago, FOX, currently a national game
Week 14: @ Eagles, FOX, Status Unclear
Week 15: vs. Redskins, NBC, Could be switched for another game, but currently National
Week 16: @ Buffalo, FOX, Status Unclear
Week 17: vs. Patriots, NFL Network, National

For now, 10 out of 16 games are either considered “big”, or national for the Giants. That is totally messed up. What does the NFL like about a mediocre team?

Well folks, I set a goal for myself, in which I would make the top 300,000 blogs in Technorati after September 22nd. It’s after September 22nd, and the new ranking among Non-Myspace blogs is:

218,475.

Thanks to all who have linked to me, as I wasn’t expecting SS Reporters to increase in popularity.

Breaking News: Ten Spot Defunct!

Sorry guys, but with school in session, combined with the homework that follows it, the weekly linkage won’t happen. I’ll continue the five spot on the weekends, but you heard it here first, the Ten Spot is no longer.

I haven’t found the time to watch the Blog Show, but it is very well done. Here’s the video of the last episode, and I guess Michael Wilbon is frightened by this.

Created by yours truly, here are some events that need only illustrations.

1. Michael Vick busted for marijuana use.

2. Rex Grossman is benched, Brian Griese replaces him.

3. Seattle Mariners eliminated from playoffs contention.

Those hate letters should come any moment.

Seahawks WIN!

09/24/2007 Mookie Leave a comment

Hawks 24 Bungles 21: Wacky game, dumb play calling, one goat. This game wasn’t 56-55, but it was just as good at 24-21.

Offensive Player of the Game, Seahawks: Nate Burleson. Although Gus Johnson and Steve Tasker chastised him to no end, he still caught the winning touchdown with 60 seconds, and had 6 catches overall for 76 yards.

Offensive Player of the Game, Bungles: TJ Houshyourmama. 12 catches, 141 yards and a TD speaks for itself doesn’t it?

Downright Offensive, Entire Game: Rudi Johnson. Maybe it’s not his fault because of those stupid toss plays that never worked, but 17 carries, for 9 YARDS!!!?? Kenny Watson saved the day for them.

Defensive Player of the Game, Seahawks: Deon Grant. He not only picked Carson Palmer, he knocked down a touchdown pass and recovered the fumble that sealed the game.

Defensive Player of the Game, Bungles: Dhani Jones. Not much to say here, he dominated us, and why the Eagles let him go is beyond me.

Turning Point: On a 4th and 1, the Hawks finally converted a short yardage situation, and Shaun Alexander ran for 14 yards to set up the winning play.

Next Game: Seattle @ San Francisco, Cincy vs. New England.
