Patriots/Giants 2nd Half Live-Blog

12/29/2007 Mookie Leave a comment

After Eli Manning found Plaxico Burress in the end zone, the Giants have a 28-16 lead over the Pats in a game that’s being shown on CBS, NBC, CNN, HGTV, Food Network, MTV, and C-Span. I’ll leave this as an open thread as it looks like the Pats are in trouble.

Update: Touchdown Pats! It’s 28-23 after a Laurence Maroney 6 yard TD run. Game on in the Meadowlands, as the Patriots perfect season is on the line tonight.

End of 3rd Quarter, Patriots 28 Giants 23.

On a 3rd and 11, Brady can’t find Moss, Giants get it at their own 26 after the punt. Bryant Gumbel is driving me crazy with “perhaps he got the first down”, “perhaps he got 1″.

And the G-Men go a horrific 3 and out, Pats ball at their own 34 with 11:00 left in the game.
TOUCHDOWN PATS!!!!!!! BRADY TO MOSS!!! That’s 50 TD’s for Brady, a record, and #23 to Moss, another record. They go for 2, and get it with Maroney, Patriots 31 Giants 28 with 11:06.

Penalty on New England, Giants get the ball back at the Pats 48. And 10:57 left.

….Or not, it’s on the Giants, they’re at their own 28. Holding on a big running play, and it is now 2nd and 6. Timeout Pats.

Interception by Ellis Hobbs….it’s all gone wrong with just under 10:00 left in the game for the Giants.

Brady sacked after a big play to Donte Stallworth.

The game is over….read the spoiler after the jump.

Chris Jesse’s Wild Ride

I’ve looked at this video for a while, I’m not sure [Texas head coach] Mack Brown’s stepson Chris Jesse touched that football. Even so, why would you even bother attempting to go after the football in the first place? It lead to an Arizona State touchdown, but it didn’t matter as ASU was torched 52-34 by Colt Brennan McCoy and Texas in the Holiday Bowl.

Jesse Palmer is on Top of His Facts

The former The Bachelor contestant and football player is now a pundit for ABC. This is Thanksgiving weekend and it’s a preview of Texas and Texas A&M. Did anyone else know about this whole Colt Brennan transfer deal?

That’s horrible. Speaking of Texas, that will come in another post.

Pac 10 Well Represented in College Football Bowl Season

12/28/2007 Mookie Leave a comment

The Pac-10 conference always gets 4 to 6 teams in a bowl game. This year, they got 6 (Oregon, Oregon State, USC, Cal, UCLA, Arizona State). But because it’s the west coast, and the media tends to focus on the east coast, this conference never gets the credit it deserves. Look at the bowl games to start this year:

  •  Las Vegas Bowl: BYU 17 UCLA 16
  • Holiday Bowl: Texas 52 Arizona State 34
  • Emerald Bowl: Maryland 14 Oregon State 7 (2nd Qtr)

So already, the Pac-10 is off to an 0-2 and possibly 0-3 start in the bowl season. I think that’s why they don’t get any respect.

Nasty Sports Injuries: Tyrone Prothro

Prothro was a star player for Alabama, made a spectacular catch against Southern Miss that is shown on TV over and over and over again. He gets a spot on a new series called “Nasty Sports Injuries”. I don’t think the leg is supposed to look like that.

FOX’s NFC East Lovefest

With the latest NFL announcing schedule released, Buck and Aikman will call ANOTHER Cowboys game, this time Dallas @ Washington for the Redskins chance at the playoffs. You guys may or may not be surprised at the number of games this duo did involving the Cowboys, and the NFC East in general. A very organized stat line shows the Cowboys games on FOX, and the regional games called by the lead announce team for FOX (Buck was away to ruin the World Series).

Regional games involving Cowboys on FOX (9)

Dallas Cowboys @ Miami DolphinsKenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, Goose

St. Louis Rams @ Dallas CowboysJoe Buck and Troy Aikman

Minnesota Vikings @ Dallas CowboysKenny Albert and Troy Aikman

Dallas Cowboys @ New York GiantsJoe Buck and Troy Aikman

Washington Redskins @ Dallas CowboysJoe Buck and Troy Aikman

Dallas Cowboys @ Detroit LionsJoe Buck and Troy Aikman

Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas CowboysJoe Buck and Troy Aikman

Dallas Cowboys @ Washington RedskinsJoe Buck and Troy Aikman

That’s right, Buck has called 7 of 9 Cowboys games, and Aikman has called 8 of 9. Besides, why the Rams? Anyway, that looks like a lot of nepotism towards Dallas. Most of these games merited a top team, but some are just head scratchers. Now let’s expand that to the NFC East bias FOX has. Read more…

Pats/Giants to be on NBC, CBS

12/26/2007 Mookie Leave a comment

This weekend, the potentially historic game between the Patriots and the Giants will be simulcast on NBC and CBS from the NFL Network. Here is an excerpt from the report:

The NFL has arranged with broadcast television partners CBS and NBC for an unprecedented three-way national simulcast of the NFL Network telecast of Saturday night’s New England Patriots at New York Giants game when the Patriots will try to become the first NFL team to go 16-0 in a regular season, NFL Commissioner ROGER GOODELL announced today.

“We have taken this extraordinary step because it is in the best interest of our fans,” Commissioner Goodell said. “What we have seen for the past year is a very strong consumer demand for NFL Network. We appreciate CBS and NBC delivering the NFL Network telecast on Saturday night to the broad audience that deserves to see this potentially historic game. Our commitment to the NFL Network is stronger than ever.”

I think they’re going overboard with 3 channels carrying the same game….but there is a writer’s strike, so that helps. Unfortunately, the 16-0 record plus Brady’s quest for 50 TD’s as well as Moss’ quest for 23 TD’s will have to be announced by Bryant Gumbel, who already had Tony Romo’s name wrong. Good for the NFL, and a nice way to get around the cable companies.

I’ve done numerous posts on the number of typos you can find on Sportsline. They’ve done well over the last few weeks…..but they’re back! Can you find the typo in this picture? Hint: Look next to Podcast, read sentence carefully.

I’m just here to wish everyone a safe and happy holidays, and to note that this is another tremendous opportunity to take the day off! I’ll see ya tomorrow…..unless the inch of snow we’ve got today somehow shuts down the internet connection.
