Battle of the Losers NFL Edition: AFC and NFC Championship Results
A day late on this one but it never hurt anyone right? The Titans go to Indy to face the Colts in the AFC BOTL Title Game, while the Packers visit the Cowboys again on the NFC side.
Colts 27 Titans 13
The Super Bowl XLI champions now have a chance to win the BOTL Championship on Monday after rallying from 10-0 down to storm to a 27-13 win in the final game at the RCA Dome. Vince Young, after a good performance against the Patriots, struggled mightily, going 14-23 for 203 yards, but 2 interceptions and no touchdowns.
Tennessee’s stifling defense for the most part held Indy’s prolific offense in check in the first half. Rob Bironas provided the only scoring of the first quarter. In the 2nd, the Titans turned to their strong running game, and LenDale White ran it in to the end zone from 1 yard out with 5:31 left in the half to give the Titans a shock 10-0 lead.
Not to be denied though, Indianapolis used up most of what was left in the half to engineer a 14 play, 70 yard drive which ended in a Reggie Wayne touchdown grab with :35 left. At halftime it was 10-7 Titans, but the Colts had the momentum.
Half #2, the Colts in the blink of an eye were in Titans territory after a 48 yard run by Kenton Keith to the Titans 19 on a draw play. Indy however couldn’t get 7, so they settled for Adam Vinatieri’s tying FG at 10-10.
The turning point in this contest came when Vince Young’s pass was intercepted by Gary Brackett, and he returned it to the Titans 12, much to the liking of the noisy crowd in the dome. Joseph Addai scored 3 plays later, Colts take a 17-10 lead into the 4th quarter.
Both teams made short range FGs, and the Titans had a chance to tie it, down 20-13. A 3rd and 3, and Young met Gary Brackett…a 2nd interception. In just 5 plays, Dallas Clark iced it with a 5 yard touchdown reception. Game, set, and match.

Cowboys 40 Packers 14
So Favre does retire not beating the Cowboys in Dallas after all. He was sacked 3 times, completed just 8 of 17 passes, and Dallas dominated time of possession to advance to face the Indianapolis Colts in the BOTL Title Game at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
Green Bay’s defense would bend, but not break on several occasions in the first half. They were down 6-0 in the 2nd quarter, but Ryan Grant took it 59 yards down the sideline, and it’s de ja vu, another long touchdown by Grant in Dallas, 7-6 Packers.
The Cowboys would come back with a Julius Jones 10 yard touchdown run, finishing off a 9 play, 84 yard drive, keyed by a Marion Barber 37 yard run. Dallas would tack on a 3rd Nick Folk FG, 16-7 Cowboys at the half.
Midway through the 3rd, Julius Jones would score his 2nd touchdown, from 1 yard out this time, and the Cowboys were cruising 23-7. Brett Favre did provide magic on the next play, connecting with Donald Driver and speeding down the sidelines to pull the Packers back within 9 on that 64 yard touchdown play.
Dallas would break the game open on a Marion Barber 17 yard score, followed by Folk’s 4th FG to put the game away. Not finished yet…Green Bay’s last drive would end in a fumble by Grant well inside their own territory, and T.O recorded his 7th catch, and Romo’s only touchdown pass of the day to finish the scoring.
The ground game was the key, with Dallas outrushing Green Bay 154-95, and they will face the Colts on Monday.
