You’re too curious to wait 2 hours? When the race actually starts? I’ll update you soon.

USA Relay Team:

Michael Phelps, Aaron Peirsol, Jason Lezak, Brendan Hansen

Race Time: 10:58 PM ET/7:58 PM PT

Other Teams:

Australia, Japan, Britain, Italy, New Zealand, South Africa, Russia

Just 7 minutes away, earlier today Dara Torres, aged 41, won silver in the 50m freestyle, just missing out on gold by two hundredths of a second to Britta Steffen of Germany.

If there is a video that I can put in to show how Usain Bolt will definitely run the 100 meters in 6.5 seconds, that will be up.

The medal ceremonies for the men’s 1500m final, and Ryan Cochrane of Canada won the nation’s first medal (it was a bronze) in this event since 1920. Ous Mellouli of Tunisia won gold, Grant Hackett of Australia won silver.

Here we go, history right here live in the Water Cube. USA will be in lane 4, the Aussies in lane 5. Phelps will have the butterfly, Lezak will have the freestyle and the anchor.

Lane 2 has Great Britain, led by star Liam Tancock. Japan with their great breaststroker Kosuke Kitajima.

Ian Thorpe watching.

Russia in lane 6.

Cam Gubsin will anchor New Zealand’s team in lane 7. Italy will be in lane 8, anchored by Fillippo Mangini.

History to be made here, Peirsol will begin first with the backstroke. Hansen will have the breaststroke.

Here we go. Americans off to a decent start, Peirsol heads toward the wall with the lead after the first 50m. The British are catching up in 3rd, Peirsol will go to the wall in first place, Brendan Hansen for the breaststroke, Russians 2nd.

Here comes Russia, they have the lead after 125m, Hansen however comes back and regains the lead over Russia.

Michael Phelps coming up next with the Butterfly, now America 3rd, Phelps in here, can he distance himself from the pack?

After 250m, Australia with a close lead, and now Phelps is pushing the Americans in front, Jason Lezak in the water for the freestyle, 100m away from history!

Lezak anchoring, Eamon Sullivan for Australia anchoring, Japan has faded, Jason Lezak is pulling away, 50 more meters to go.

He has a large lead now, Lezak in the final 50m, 25m left, Sullivan is closing in, but it’s not enough, Lezak will win it! MOVE OVER MARK SPITZ!! PHELPS WILL GET GOLD NUMBER 8!!! A WORLD RECORD TIME! THE AMERICANS HAVE DONE IT!!! And Michael Phelps, has got a piece of history, 8 golds, 8 records (7 world and 1 Olympic). No other individual has won more gold medals in a single Olympics, than Michael Phelps.

Australia 2nd, Japan 3rd, but all eyes on Michael Phelps, who celebrates in the water cube, with a remarkable achievement.

Congratulations to Michael Phelps, there were 2 thrilling finishes along the way (the 4 x 100 freestyle, and the 100m butterfly), but other than that, he showed why he is the most dominant swimmer today, and on the biggest stage, he has made history that may last even longer than Spitz’s.

…..as long as he passes the drugs test!

Michael Phelps is, without a doubt, the face of his sport just like Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Muhammad Ali, Brett Favre, Roger Federer and Babe Ruth. However, for all that he accomplished in this years Olympic games, I still don’t think he ranks in the top 5 of all-time Olympians.
