We tease the Bengals so much for being a team that can be deadly on offense yet awful on defense, and the fact that they have a criminal record like you wouldn’t believe. I believe it was 11 Bengals that were arrested in the span of 2 years before the winds calmed down and they got rid of…….hmmm…….have they gotten rid of anyone on their roster that has been arrested? Chris Henry is back right?
Anyway, the Jacksonville Jaguars are officially the new Cincinnati Bengals. A team with some talent, a strong defense yet a very questionable offense. Oh yes, and now they have a long criminal history to go with it! It’s actually worse than what the Bengals have done, and drunk driving seems to be a common theme in most of these arrests.
Richard Collier (who sadly is clinging to life after being shot near an apartment building in Miami), arrested for drunk driving, and was suspended 2 games by Jack Del Rio in November 2007.
Justin Durant, then a rookie, was arrested for…..resisting arrest without violence, also in 2007. He and Collier were left off the travel squad for their game in New Orleans.
Matt Jones, arrested on drug charges after he was caught cutting up cocaine with a credit card. It’s a double edged sword because he is either using the drugs or selling earlier this year.
Fred Taylor, arrested for disorderly conduct at a nightclub a few days ago, and was reportedly yelling repeatedly at police officers.
Jimmy Smith (okay he retired 2 years ago but he was a Jaguars player nearly his enitre career), arrested for drunk driving and was caught with marijuana in his car on the same day as Fred Taylor’s arrest.
Brian Williams, the DB apologized after his drunk driving arrest in 2006.
Dennis Northcutt, the wide receiver is now being sued for allegedly arranging the beating of his pregnant ex-girlfriend. Details will come out as time progresses.
Gerald Sensabaugh, the safety was also arrested on DUI charges in 2007.
Brent Hawkins, after the Jaguars lost to New England, Hawkins was arrested for a DUI in 2008.
Ahmad Caroll, the former Packer, Jaguar and now New York Favres CB, was arrested on gun and drug charges in 2007.
Khalif Barnes, the offensive tackle was, you guessed it, arrested on DUI charges in 2007.
Bobby McCray, arrested on drug possession charge in 2006, now with the Saints.
That’s 12 Jaguars players right there in 2 years. This is quite troubling for a supposed Super Bowl contender, instead of defending against the rush they will end up defending themselves if this gets even more out of hand.

Sad and pitiful. Seriously, it’s time for these kids to grow up.

Agreed, and it’s only getting worse.

[...] are not only picking the Jaguars to win the division but also go to the Super Bowl. I think the off-the-field problems in Jacksonville will drag them down. It doesn’t look like the Titans have moved forward but maybe Houston [...]

Have the Bengals gotten rid of anyone on their roster that has been arrested? Uh…here’s just a quick list of EX-Bengals that count into that arrest total:
1. Matthias Askew
2. Reggie McNeal
3. A.J. Nicholson
4. Deltha O’Neal
5. Eric Steinbach
6. Odell Thurman
7. Quincy Wilson
There may be others, but I think it should be noted that MOST of the Bengals that count into that arrest total aren’t Bengals anymore (and half of those have been gone awhile). Sure, there’s still Henry, Joseph, and Rucker, but most of the guys showing up on the police blotter are long gone (70% of them, to be precise).
I appreciate you at least recognize that the Jaguars are worse, though. That puts you ahead of most bloggers. :)
