Super Bowl XLVI “As it Happened” Reactions

Normally I reserve “Enemy Reaction” for Seahawks opponents, but the Seahawks weren’t in the Super Bowl. There’s no enemy to be had here, really, even though I really am not a fan of the New England Patriots. Yesterday’s game was well-played, close throughout, and featured one of the most bizarre finishes ever capped off with a dramatic Hail Mary on the final play that just came up short. The 9-7 New York Giants are Super Bowl champions, while the 13-3 New England Patriots once again fall short to this Giants team for a 3rd consecutive game and for a 2nd Super Bowl. The live in-game reactions from Patriots and Giants fans have been documented for the key plays for the Giants in the Super Bowl, from the Tom Brady safety all the way to the final play. Following that is post-game thoughts from a few Pats bloggers.

Live-thread reactions are courtesy of Pats Pulpit and Big Blue View.

Enemy Reaction – Chicago Bears

First written at Field Gulls

Did Seattle….just win consecutive road games? Yes they did. Hasn’t been done since 2007, and even that team only went 3-5 on the road. The combined 2nd half score of both their wins in St. Louis and Chicago is 45-0. The Seahawks are right in the thick of the playoff chase and given pre-season expectations and actual mid-season performance, this is a major accomplishment.

This week’s edition of Enemy Reaction is centered around the free-falling Chicago Bears, and the key plays highlights — all in the 2nd half — has game thread reaction from Field Gulls and Windy City Gridiron.

Enemy Reaction: St. Louis Rams

First written at Field Gulls

You know, it’s not really a great thing when you pick on a 2-11 team, but it goes away when you know it’s the St. Louis Rams. There’s not a lot to like. They have Josh McDaniels, Josh Brown, and are the only team we’ve ever lost to in the postseason at Qwest/CenturyLink Field. Monday night’s win makes it 13 out of 14 since that 0-fer-3 year that was 2004.

We’ll start with usual game thread reaction from both Field Gulls and Turf Show Times, and included is the hilarious response from Rams fans after it took them 8 tries to score from the 1 yard line. Please note I only have one shot of the Marshawn Lynch touchdown run because the last GT on Field Gulls was deleted for some odd reason. As always, zoom-in to get a larger look at each juxtaposition.

Enemy Reaction – Philadelphia Eagles

First written at Field Gulls

What is it with the Seattle Seahawks on national TV? Well for one they’ve done a good job of making sure the Seahawks have no primetime road games because they’ve had a grand total of four in the last five years. The aura of CenturyLink Field has captivated the mainstream media and they’ve since added it to the list of things to discuss when the Seahawks are on TV — The other things listed are fish tossing, grunge music, bodies of water, and now Skittles. Last Thursday the Seahawks essentially dominated the Philadelphia Eagles and ended their stupid Dream Team season, causing the media to go into mass panic.

I’m here to show you how this Eagles loss felt from their fans’ perspective. As usual I’ve juxtaposed our game thread to the opposing team’s — in this case it’s Bleeding Green Nation — and unlike other threads I’ve made the Eagles side much longer than ours because their thread is not only larger, but is much more hilarious.

There were so many big plays in this game so I’ve put in seven screenshots for your enjoyment…just make sure to zoom-in!

The Morning Aftermath: Arizona Cardinals

First written on Field Gulls.

It feels good to be 2-1 in the division doesn’t it? It feels even better to be in 1st place in the NFC West just like old times. This game was far from pretty and once again the Seahawks have proven themselves incapable of emphatically putting teams away when they are on the ropes, a trend I’ve noticed since 2006. Anyone remember when the Denver Broncos (more on them later) turned it over on consecutive possessions and only mustered field goals to make a 14-13 lead, 20-13? Yeah I’d say it probably started around there.

Anyways, we won, Arizona lost, and all is right in the world. So for the first time ever the Cardinals fear the wrath of The Aftermath.

The Morning Aftermath: Chicago Bears

Thou shalt not pass the Great Wall of Okung.

First written at Field Gulls.

Knee deep in work I managed to write up The Morning Aftermath: Chicago Bears. This was enjoyable to do because unlike the Chargers, the Chicago Bears are one of the most recognizable teams in football and play in a gigantic TV market. That’s more than enough to supply material for the week. If any Bears fans are reading this don’t be offended as this is simply a look at how other teams handle defeats.

Note there is coarse language involved so you’ve been warned…
