One of the big stories heading into these Olympics was whether or not Canada would actually win a gold medal on home soil. They failed in 1976 (Montreal – Summer) and 1988 (Calgary – Winter) but have succeeded in Vancouver 2010!
Alexandre Bilodeau of Quebec won gold at the Men’s moguls event earlier tonight to claim Canada’s first gold of these Olympics and their first on home soil! Defending champion Dale Begg-Smith of Australia won silver in this event as he returned to his birthplace. American Bryon Wilson clinched bronze. But the story today is Canada earning the gold they’ve desired to see on their home turf! Hopefully they’ll collect many more during these games.
Congratulations to Bilodeau and congratulations to Canada!
