World Cup Classics: England vs. Argentina

An always intense rivalry was renewed in the 1998 World Cup in France. England and Argentina faced off in the round of 16. The Argentines had won Group H, winning all of their matches by a combined 7-0 scoreline (5 of those came against Jamaica). England had finished runners-up in Group G after winning their final game against Colombia in what proved to be essentially a “loser goes home” match.

Would England get their revenge after being undone by the Hand of God in 1986? Your match commentator is Martin Tyler.

Argentina won in a penalty shootout and continued their reign over England. This game was remembered for a young (healthy) Michael Owen scoring one of the goals of the tournament, but it was all for naught.
