Men’s Hockey Gold Medal Game Set

The United States and Canada are going to have a rematch exactly one week after the Americans won 5-3 against the host nation in the preliminary stage of men’s hockey. This time around the stakes are higher because it’s for the gold medal. Back in 2002 the US fell 5-2 to Canada in Salt Lake City in the gold medal game. Certainly there is a favor to return two days from now.

Earlier today the US obliterated Finland 6-1, scoring all of their goals in the first period. Canada hung on to beat Slovakia 3-2 in the nightcap to officially set up the rematch. The Canadians will be looking to do the double over the US, with their women’s team beating the American ladies 2-0 last night to win gold for a 3rd straight Olympics.

It should be a great game. I will naturally root for the US but if Canada wins it would be great for the host nation.

Oh, and NBC is airing this game live coast-to-coast. Whee!!!!

Sound off.....
