Battle of the Losers 2010!

For the 3rd year running the college basketball world will have its eyes on Battle of the Losers! This was a feature of mine back in April 2008, where the losers in the first round of March Madness would play against each other in a quasi-consolation bracket simulated using Whatifsports. That alone comprises the field of 32. Unlike 2008 and exactly like 2009, the losers will be reseeded from #1 to #8. For example, #4 Vanderbilt was the highest seeded team to lose in the West region, so they now become the #1 seed in BOTL. All of the #16 seeds are now #8 seeds and once again hungry for the upset. The only change in this year’s BOTL is I will be running the tournament concurrently with the remainder of the NCAA Tournament as opposed to April.

UConn defeated Gonzaga in 2008, Minnesota edged West Virginia in 2009, can Minnesota possibly be a repeat champion?

Enough talk, time to unveil the bracket!

East Region

#1 Temple vs. #8 East Tennessee State

#2 Marquette vs. #7 Morgan State

#3 Clemson vs. #6 Montana

#4 Texas vs. #5 Wofford

Midwest Region

#1 Georgetown (top overall seed) vs. #8 Lehigh

#2 Oklahoma State vs. #7 UC Santa Barbara

#3 UNLV vs. #6 Houston

#4 San Diego State vs. #5 New Mexico State

South Region

#1 Notre Dame vs. #8 Arkansas Pine-Bluff

#2 Richmond vs. #7 Robert Morris

#3 Louisville vs. #6 Sam Houston State

#4 Utah State vs. #5 Siena

West Region

#1 Vanderbilt vs. #8 Vermont

#2 Florida State vs. #7 North Texas

#3 Florida vs. #6 Oakland

#4 Minnesota vs. #5 UTEP

The simulations begin on Tuesday and every region should be completed by Friday. Final Four is going to be played on Saturday with the title game on Sunday. I’ve got my money on Louisville.
