Last year Leroy Hill nearly stamped his ticket out of Seattle by getting arrested for marijuana possession when he was still a free agent. This year he’s got a big contract filled with wads of money…..and he’s been arrested for assaulting his girlfriend at his home.
Seahawks linebacker Leroy Hill was arrested Saturday night after police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at his home in Issaquah.
Police responded just before midnight on Saturday, and observed Hill’s girlfriend with “obvious marks and injuries indicating an assault had occurred,” according to a release from the Issaquah Police Department. The police stated Hill’s girlfriend, who lived with him, alleged Hill caused the injuries.
He was arrested and taken to the Issaquah City Jail for investigation of misdemeanor assault. Hill was not included among the online listing of inmates Monday afternoon, indicating he had been released. A date for his arraignment could not be determined.
The Seahawks released a statement from general manager John Schneider regarding the arrest.
“While we are still in the process of gathering information, we are aware of the situation involving Leroy Hill and take these issues very seriously,” Schneider said in the statement. “We will wait to receive all the facts before commenting further.”
Hill, 27, has played five seasons for the Seahawks, becoming a starter midway through the 2005 season. This is his second arrest in 16 months. He was arrested in Georgia in January 2009 on a misdemeanor charge after he was found with marijuana in a car. Hill pleaded guilty earlier this month and received 12 months probation.
Obviously we have to wait and see how the case works out, but signs point to the Seahawks LB once again getting caught up in an act of stupidity which ended up harming his girlfriend and maybe his status as a Seahawk.
The NFL is one big circus act, isn’t it?
I guess it’s time to look at possible linebackers to draft in the later rounds to replace him. Because if he does get busted it only gives Seattle more reason to send him elsewhere.
Update: Hill has been formally charged. If anything he’s definitely getting an NFL suspension.
