Patrick Kane Wins the Stanley Cup in OT

It was only 10 months ago Patrick Kane was punching a taxi driver. Now he’s won the Stanley Cup and ended a 49 year drought for the Chicago Blackhawks. His bizarre OT goal went into the net but was stuck under the net and no one other than Kane clearly saw it go in. The officials signaled the goal had been scored and the celebrations were on. Game 6 is in the books and so is the Stanley Cup. For the 3rd straight year in a row the winner has clinched the title on the road. A shocked Flyers crowd saw Kane celebrating down the ice and knew their fate was sealed.

Jonathan Toews did not score a goal in this series but his work in the playoffs on the road to the Stanley Cup is what won him the Conn Smythe Trophy. For Marion Hossa, the third time was the charm after two straight years of falling short with the Penguins and Red Wings respectively.

There are wild scenes in Chicago as the half-century wait is over. Sadly there was not to be one more miracle for these Philadelphia Flyers. The Blackhawks were the better team in this series and Michael Leighton was outplayed by Antti Niemi in the battle of the backup goaltenders.

I’ll find video when I can. Congrats to the Flyers on a great season even though they fell just short. The story tonight is the Chicago Blackhawks, your 2010 Stanley Cup Champions.

EDIT: Video of the goal.
