Manchester United pressed the self-destruct button at home against West Bromwich Albion, blowing a 2-0 lead in the 2nd half and finishing with a 2-2 draw. Because of that I get to use my panic button until it’s broken and I have to buy another panic button.
Some awful set piece defending resulted in an own goal scored by Patrice Evra to make it 2-1, but a moment of madness came when GK Edwin Van Der Sar inexplicably dropped a poor cross right into the path of Somen Tchoyi to square the game at 2-2. After that Manchester United essentially were never a major attacking threat and were lucky not to lose the game.
Predictably I’m livid, pissed off with the result, and with Chelsea also dropping points to Aston Villa, United AGAIN failed to gain ground on the defending champions.
There are a lot of things that concern me about this team. It appears that this midfield is a complete mess without Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs in the lineup. Without them no one is capable of a proper attacking pass, and boy oh boy did Darren Gibson show that today.
Another fun fact – Manchester United have conceded at least 2 goals in five of their Premier League games and this is the 2nd time they’ve lost a 2 goal lead this season. What happened to the killer instinct? These are the types of games that could haunt us during the final weeks of the season. Dropping points to less-than-stellar competition makes you wonder how they’ll perform against Chelsea or Arsenal.
I am in a panic because this team refuses to close out games, the midfield stinks, and Wayne “Shrek” Rooney is not back to his usual excellent form. They have to stop blowing winnable games as of right now. The only good thing is that we’re undefeated but we have 5 draws and just 3 wins coupled with 0 away victories.
Sickening stuff today. It’s time to pick up the pace before Chelsea even bother pulling away from the rest of the pack.
