RIP Dave Niehaus

Baseball and sports broadcasting in general lost a legend today. Dave Niehaus, the Seattle Mariners play-by-play man since its inception in 1977, passed away at the age of 75 of a heart attack. He’s not particularly well known nationally as the Mariners have been historically one of the worst teams in baseball, but when the M’s had their highs, so did he. His infectious enthusiasm was just one of his many traits that made him so popular among Seattle sports fans.

Niehaus was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008 and will certainly be missed throughout Seattle sports and as a commentator. I don’t want to ramble on and on so I will leave you with perhaps his most famous call in his 33 years as a Mariners broadcaster.
