Sure the NFC West Sucks….

….But all that matters is how you perform in the playoff, is it not?

NFC West

2005-06: Seattle Seahawks def. #6 Washington Redskins, #5 Carolina Panthers, L to Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XL

2006-07: #4 Seattle Seahawks def. #5 Dallas Cowboys, L to #1 Chicago Bears in divisional round

2007-08: #3 Seattle Seahawks def. #6 Washington Redskins, L to #2 Green Bay Packers in divisional round

2008-09: #4 Arizona Cardinals def. #5 Atlanta Falcons, #2 Carolina Panthers, #6 Philadelphia Eagles, L to Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII

2009-10: #4 Arizona Cardinals def. #5 Green Bay Packers, L to #1 New Orleans Saints in divisional round

Playoff Record: 9-4 (.692)

NFC East (excluding NFC East vs. NFC East matchups)

2005-06: #4 New York Giants L to #5 Carolina Panthers in wild card round. #6 Washington Redskins def. #3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, L to Seattle Seahawks in divisional round.

2006-07: #5 Dallas Cowboys L to #4 Seattle Seahawks in wild card round. #3 Philadelphia Eagles L to #2 New Orleans Saints in divisional round.

2007-08: #6 Washington Redskins L to #3 Seattle Seahawks in wild card round. #5 New York Giants def. #4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, #2 Green Bay Packers, #1 New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

2008-09: #6 Philadelphia Eagles def. #3 Minnesota Vikings, L to #4 Arizona Cardinals in NFC Championship Game.

2009-10: #3 Dallas Cowboys L to #2 Minnesota Vikings in divisional round.

Record: 5-7 (.416)

Record vs. NFC West: 0-4

If not for Santonio Holmes in Super Bowl XLIII and Jerramy Stevens in Super Bowl XL, the NFC West would have more Super Bowls than the NFC East in the last 5 years in addition to having a better playoff record. The only thing settling this whole debate is Super Bowl XLII, and we all remember what happened that night.

As you all know, stats tell the whole story and I have proven the NFC West to be better in the postseason than the highly touted East. ;-)

Going 14-2 means nothing as long as you screw up just one time in the post-season.

With all of that said…….the NFC West winner will get destroyed in the wild card round this year.

The NFC West has had playoff success in recent years, but that does not mean they are not God-awful this year and deserving of their place as the laughing stock of the NFL.

Combined point differential by Division in 2010 (these numbers were found by adding the point differentials of all 4 teams):

      NFC North (+) 79
      AFC West (+) 65
      AFC East (+) 59
      AFC North (+) 59
      NFC East (-) 2
      NFC South (-) 5
      AFC South (-) 8
      NFC West (-) 247

I’ll eat by humble pie if the 2010 NFC West playoff representative loses by less than 30.

This year the NFC West is the worst it’s ever been. I know they’re terrible but who’s going to be laughing when the Rams are playing in the NFC Championship Game? ;-)
