VIDEO: Clint Dempsey’s Terrible Penalty

Clint Dempsey is having a great season with Fulham. Tonight he had the unusual role of penalty duty after the normal penalty taker Danny Murphy was subbed off. In the 93rd min, with a chance to distance themselves from relegation, and to give Chelsea yet another loss, he did this….

No power or speed and practically right at Cech for an easy save. Unfortunately Landon Donovan isn’t there to bail him out and the game ended 0-0.

Oh well, while that miss irritates me, Chelsea HAVE to be considered out of the title race. The gap is now 12 points from 5th to 1st and only a completely meltdown by Manchester United and Arsenal would give Chelsea any sort of life in the race to be crowned champions of the Barclays Premier League.

So let’s end the Chelsea hype once and for all and completely write them off. They are now in a position where they might very well have to win out the remainder of the season.

In a weekend where Wayne Rooney scored one of the goals of the season, Clint Dempsey took an awful penalty and was unable to win a game they hardly looked like winning over the course of 90 minutes. Take your chances better, Clint.

I think Cech baited Dempsey into shooting to the left side. Regardless, that was a great save by Cech on a very poorly taken PK.

Chelsea have been so incredibly unlucky this season. This game, the Birmingham City game from November. Chelsea generated a whole host of chances, but it is a matter of sheer dumb luck they were not converted. Torres is currently in a bout with nerves and trying too hard. Once he finds his stride in Chelsea, he will be the world class striker that he has shown himself to be over the past few years. They are not winning the EPL this year, but they are better than the 5th place team in the Premier League (if they so much as win the 2 games I pointed them out as being particularly unlucky in; this game and the Birmingham City game, they are in 3rd place with 51 points). Realistically, Chelsea are fighting for a Champions League berth, and with fixtures remaining against Tottenham and Man City, that is certainly something that is well within the reach of the Blues.

I will conclude this comment by saying that David Luiz is awesome.
