Butler 70 VCU 62 – Bulldogs Return to Championship Game

One Cinderella team had to go and it wasn’t going to be Butler tonight. Brad Stevens and his Butler Bulldogs are in the National Championship Game yet again after a hard fought 70-62 win over Virginia Commonwealth. The #11 seed just could not maintain their three-point shooting success (8-22) and were badly dominated on the boards at both ends and the Rams’ stunning run has ended. VCU has nothing to be ashamed of and Shaka Smart will definitely be getting offers (hopefully he rejects them) for vacant coaching positions.

Butler was too strong and too big in the paint for the Rams to handle and now they face the winner of UConn/Kentucky. Shelvin Mack was sensational and their composure in close games is phenomenal. The last #8 seed to make the final was the only one to make it — The Villanova Wildcats of 1985. All the Wildcats did was stun Georgetown 66-64 in one of the biggest upsets in college basketball history. The Bulldogs came close last year to pulling off a shocking upset as a #5 seed, now they’re a #8 with another chance to win one for the little guy.

Congratulations once again to the Butler Bulldogs and I look forward to Monday night!
