Remember I did a post about Tito Ortiz winning a fight? Well now he’s back to losing and this time around he was stopped. In the main event of UFC 133, Rashad Evans showed no signs of ring rust after a 14 month layoff and TKO’d Tito with a vicious knee to the body late in the 2nd round and then landing several punches to Ortiz’s noggin as the Huntington Beach Bad Boy turtle up defenseless.
Evans now earns a title shot against the winner of Jon Jones vs. Rampage Jackson, which takes place September 24th in Denver at UFC 135. I have to say I’m not Rashad’s biggest fan in the world but he tonight. Tito took him down early but couldn’t muster much offense, Rashad countered with a powerful slam takedown near the end of the 1st and ended the round in side control. The only threatening moment for Ortiz was a guillotine attempt as Evans took him down in the 2nd round and once that failed it was all Rashad. Ortiz did take this fight on short notice so he’ll get to stay in the UFC a little bit longer, but this fight should put to bed any talk of him being on the comeback trail. He did put up a good scrap and won Fight of the Night honors for his troubles.
