Very scary moment in this morning’s Premier League clash between Chelsea and Norwich City. Video is after the jump but be warned it’s somewhat disturbing.
Didier Drogba attacked a longball into the penalty area and was involved in a 50-50 challenge with Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy. With Ruddy coming out to punch the ball clear, he inadvertently punched Drogba, who landed flat on his face and was essentially knocked out for 30 minutes.
It should be noted that this was offside anyway but the players were not aware of it.
The good news out of all of this is that he was released from the hospital and suffered just a mild concussion. It looked like he was close to death the way he fell. All the best to him and thank goodness he ended up being alright. He’ll certainly miss some time, but it could have been a lot worse.
As for Ruddy, he was promptly sent off for a later challenge on Frank Lampard and Chelsea capitalized on the subsequent penalty and won late on 3-1.
