Free fights are cool. Free title fights are even better! Tomorrow night in Washington DC the UFC will put up their first ever title fight on free TV when bantamweight standout Dominick Cruz defends his belt against Demetrious Johnson. The co-main is between Pat Barry vs. Stefan Struve. I should now mention that Demetrious Johnson is 5’3 and Stefan Struve is 6’11. You’ll go from giants to midgets instantly once Barry vs. Struve is over. The other live fights on Versus (9 PM ET/6 PM PT) will be a welterweight showdown featuring Anthony “Rumble” Johnson against Charlie Brenneman. Lightweights Mac Danzig and Matt Wiman will open the card with a rematch of their controversial fight at UFC 115, in which referee Yves Lavigne inadvertently ruled Danzig as unconscious from a guillotine choke when he was in fact okay.
As mentioned, the fun starts at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT and will end at around 8:30 PM PT. The preliminary card will be streamed on Facebook but I’ll only “live” blog the fights that are used as filler for the broadcast.
Join me tomorrow night and as always the post-event GIFs will be floating around.
