Demian Maia vs. Chris Weidman (185 lbs)

Round 1 – Maia is 34? Wow. Underway from Chicago. Maia throws a short left hook that misses. Weidman attempts a front kick. Maia slips. Weidman lands a straight right. Head kick blocked by Maia. Nice knee by Maia. USA chants. Shut up. Weidman pawing with the jab. No takedown attempts early. Another good knee by Maia. They change body kicks. Superman punch by Weidman doesn’t come close. All stand-up so far. Maia swings wildly with the left and gets tossed aside. Nice leg kick by Weidman. 1:15 left in the round and now a knee to the body by Maia. Why you no takedown, Demian? Now Weidman gets the takedown with under a minute remaining. Maia is out and slips throwing a head kick. The two clinch with 30 seconds left. Round ends with no more strikes. 10-9 Weidman.

Round 2 – Weidman with a takedown into side control but Maia is trying to sweep and does. They’re back to their feet. Short elbow and a thudding leg kick by Weidman. Maia’s striking is just not that good. Two short lefts by Maia. Weidman tries to clinch but fails. Maia is fighting a really stupid fight and the crowd boos. There’s a decent left jab by Maia and now they trade leg kicks with 1:20 left in the round. Maia hasn’t attempted a single takedown. Weidman shoots in for a takedown but Maia stuffs and is against the cage and backs off. Maia picking up the pace and lands a good knee. Body kick blocked. Weidman might be slowing. As I say that he gets another takedown. Weidman nearly took Maia’s back, goes for a guillotine choke and the horn sounds. Close round, but I have it 20-18 Weidman.

Round 3 – Maia is taken down so easily and Weidman is in his guard. Maia pushes him off so he can return to his amazing striking. Maia looks gassed. Telegraphed takedown by Maia and Weidman briefly holds on for a headlock. This fight has gotten really ugly. It’s a sloppy kickboxing match. Weidman  lands 3 solid knees. And with 1 minute left it looks like Weidman has this fight wrapped up. Not a good showcase fight for FOX. Seconds tick away and it’s over. 30-27 Weidman.

OFFICIAL DECISION: Chris Weidman def. Demian Maia via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28). SPLIT?! What the heck? EDIT: Dana White said on twitter the scorecard was read incorrectly, Weidman won via unanimous decision.

Chael Sonnen vs. Michael Bisping (185 lbs)

Round 1 – Oh boy could this be some fun lay-and-pray.  Chael with a 10 second takedown but Bisping gets back up. Hard left by Bisping. Sonnen going for another takedown. USA chants again. Bisping getting no time or space to throw and Sonnen gets the trip-takedown. Sonnen lands a few ground shots but Bisping scrambles out. Bisping has Sonnen against the cage and lands a knee to the body and now Bisping is going for a takedown but gets his position reversed. Wild right by Sonnen misses. Already a better fight than the Maia dross. Bisping tries a flashy kick that misses and Sonnen shoots for another takedown but Bisping stifles it. They trade knees in close range. Minute left. Sonnen clips Bisping with a right to the temple. Two shots by Bisping catch Sonnen short inside. Bisping is not making this fight easy. Round ends. Good action. 10-9 Sonnen on the takedowns.

Round 2 – Chael pushes the pace again but Bisping puts Sonnen against the cage. Much impressive wrestling. Chael warned for strikes to the back of the head. McCarthy separates them and we’re back to striking. Nice knee to the body by Bisping. Sonnen gets the power double takedown. Whoa, Bisping has a little bit of a cut under his right eye. Now as Bisping gets up he eats a knee. Nice lefhook by Bisping that buzzes Sonnen! Now they clinch, Bisping goes for a single leg takedown but Sonnen stays on his feet. Minute left in the 2nd. Chael might be gassing. Sonnen’s striking is all sorts of sloppy and again Bisping lands a knee to the body. I give that round to Bisping. 19-19.

Round 3 – Big takedown by Chael Sonnen to immediately start round 3. Bisping trying to sweep but Sonnen maintains top control. Michael goes for a leglock and now tries to work his way back up but gives up his back. Sonnen might try and choke out Bisping. Chael in a dominant position with 2:40 left. Now he gets full mount!  Sonnen perhaps trying to attack with an arm-triangle choke.  Chael slams him a couple of times. Bisping hip-escapes back to half-guard! Minute left. This round is all Sonnen and it’s a grueling fight. Bisping scoots and wall-walks and is on one-knee. Bisping is back up! 20 seconds left. WOW! Bisping gets a takedown and lands big elbows on Sonnen to end the fight! Great fight if you ask me. 29-28 Sonnen but could easily see 29-28 Bisping.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Chael Sonnen def. Michael Bisping via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28 29-28). 30-27 is retarded. Great fight and Chael proceeds to hype himself up for the Anderson Silva rematch.

Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis (205 lbs)

Round 1 – Phil Davis is built like a mythical god. Davis is the early aggressor. Nice leg kick by Davis. Phil is fighting from a distance. Another leg kick. He has some powerful kicks.  Davis slips and they tie-up.  Lands an elbow on the break. Davis ducks an Evans strike and shoots for a takedown that is stuffed, Evans had a head lock but lets it go. Good counterpunch by Rashad. Davis feints and throws a superman punch and slips on the way and clinches. High kick just misses from Davis. Evans catches a kick and Davis is taken down for the first time in his UFC career. Rashad in Davis’ half-guard. Rashad is close to advancing to side control and now he has it. Now Evans has a mounted crucifix with 30 seconds left. Davis is in a bad spot and Evans is landing some solid strikes and now Evans is in side control. Evans tries to take his back but the round ends. Good finish for Rashad. 10-9 Evans

Round 2 – Not much action in the first 30 seconds until Davis lands a knee to the body. Evans checks the leg kick. Phil doing well to avoid Rashad’s power shots standing. Takedown stuffed. Rashad pushes the pace and lands a right to the body and now goes for the takedown against the fence.  Good elbow in the clinch. And a right hand, too. Davis just missed with a right.  Evans lands a nice combination. Both attempt knees and they hit each other’s knees instead.  Evans catches another kick and gets Davis down and right into side control with 15 seconds left in the round. Two rounds down. 20-18 Evans. Can he keep his cardio up?

Round 3 – Davis has his leg kick checked. Wild right goes nowhere. Rashad stuffs another takedown and grabs his neck. Davis has a single leg and does get him down. He works his way back up but Davis controls his left leg. Loses the leg and gets reversed! Rashad with another takedown. Evans has back mount on Davis but Davis escapes! Good knee by Davis who is breathing out of his mouth. Hard uppercut by Rashad. Davis dropped for….something. Davis hit with another uppercut and looks hurt. Now Davis turns the tide and gets a takedown!  Rashad trying to scramble and he’s back to his feet. Davis has a hold of him and fires some knees to the thigh. End of round 3. Evans landing the harder shots. 30-27 Evans.

Round 4 – Good kick to the body by Davis. His punching though is awful. Evans’ boxing is just too good. Great jab. Davis kick is caught and Rashad tries a takedown but to no avail. This is not a great fight at all. Evans had Davis’ back and lost it. Evans seems hesitant to throw the killer one KO punch. Good right hand hurts Davis and the round ends. 40-36 Evans.

Round 5 – Evans slips in a left hook over the top.  Peppers Davis with the jab.  Catches the kick and lands a slew of uppercuts and takes him down! Davis is hurt! Evans trying to advance to side control. Mounted crucifix for Evans for the 2nd time, tonight. Evans takes his back instead. Davis is back up to his feet and eats a right hand. Another right hook by Evans buckles Davis! 90 seconds left. Davis gamely trying to catch a miracle shot but nothing doing. Evans tags him with another right and the fight is over. 50-45 Evans.

OFFICIAL DECISION:  Rashad Evans def. Phil Davis via unanimous decision (50-45 x3). Jones will kill Rashad.

No sugarcoating it, this card was bad and it is not surprising. Way too many wrestlers and Demian Maia phoned his performance in. Oh well, hopefully this wasn’t watched by too many people.

Good night all.

Fox need to tighten up. Worst production ever. If this is what making it big means then I liked it better before
